More information about the speaker: Alois Lichtsteiner

The painter Alois Lichtsteiner was born in 1950 in Ohmstal in the canton of Lucerne. After various manual occupations, he attended the School of Applied Arts in Zürich. His first solo exhibition took place in 1978 at the Bern gallery of Johannes Gachnang. He was a lecturer at the ECAV in Sierre and until 2004 chair of the jury for Bachelor and Master at the HES-SO in Sierre. Alois Lichtsteiner lives and works in Murten and Paris. The paintings of Alois Lichtsteiner are like meditative images about the secret relationship between the sensually perceptible and the invisible.

More information about the topic: "About the freedom and the happiness of being able to devote oneself entirely to one’s work"

Alois Lichtsteiner engages with the image as a body covered by skin and its sensual perception.

Since 1998 he has used the 'mountain' as a metaphor for body and skin. The snow-covered landscapes in oil paint on canvas and on high-quality Tosa Shoji Japanese paper belong to his current cycle of works. Snowfields, which appear in nature as random phenomena, Lichtsteiner composes in his pictures into abstract landscapes of forms.

When Lichtsteiner paints a snow-covered slope, he paints a body covered by skin. The skin of paint mediates between the inner world of the picture and the outer world of the viewer, and vice versa.
